Police were on the scene before the shooting, called there by the hotel security personnel to quell possible domestic violence in one of the hotel rooms, and reported the shots fired. The District Attorney’s office is investigating, normal procedure when a Laguna Beach police officer is involved in a shooting.

“Presumably one of our officers was involved,” said department spokesman, Sgt. Jason Kravetz who spent the day fielding media calls. “However, at this time I cannot confirm who shot who or even if the man and woman are dead from gun shot wounds.”

“Three officers and a sergeant responded to the call,” Kravetz said. “While they were on the way, we began getting 911 calls from the public saying a crazy, naked woman was running around outside the hotel, giving us different locations.

“Hotel security called again and confirmed that a woman was running around the grounds with a gun and alluding to the previous call.

“The officers arrived and found her pretty fast.”

They took took up positions around the room near the location where witnesses placed the woman and tried to calm the situation with two man and woman in the room, to no avail, Kravetz said.

As soon as gunshots were fired, an unidentified Laguna Beach police officer reported in and the Orange County District Attorney’ office was immediately contacted to make for an independent investigation, Kravetz said.

The Orange County Sheriff ‘s Department will review the forencsic evidence.

Kravetz declined to comment on the identity of the dead man and woman, pending notification of relatives.

Hours later, it was business as usual at the hotel, with new guests checking in and few signs of police activity.
