Cypress 2, Orange Coast 1CYPRESS — Chris Lum went two for four for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Thursday.

Cypress’ Grant Rachlin hit a two-out RBI single to win the game in the bottom of the ninth to send OCC to 22-17, 12-8 in conference. Wes Kartch went two for four for the Pirates, who remain in second place in the OEC, but must win Saturday at Cypress to stay ahead of Irvine Valley and the Chargers (24-15, 11-9).

OCC pitcher Keith Demorgandie struck out five, walked two and scattered eight hits in nine innings.

Cal Baptist 5, Vanguard 4COSTA MESA — Derek Craddock went two for three with two RBIs and one run scored for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Zach Leighton also had two hits with one RBI for Vanguard (20-23, 15-19 in conference). Jordon Moore had three hits and Aaron Seuss three RBIs for Cal Baptist (22-15, 22-12).

Orange Empire ConferenceMISSION VIEJO — The Orange Coast College men’s team hold a sizeable lead and the Pirates’ women’s squad are also in first after the first day of competition at Saddleback College.

Championships

Damien Bernard (1 minute, 55.50 seconds), Joe Krone and Zach Duehring went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard individual medley for the OCC men, who lead with 277 points, 134 more than second-place Grossmont. The Pirates also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:24.38.

On the women’s side, OCC won the 200 free relay in 1:41.58 to help gain 196 points, 39 more than second-place Grossmont. The championships continue through Saturday.
