Corona del Mar 12, JSerra 8CORONA DEL MAR — Mike Kidushim scored four goals to lead the No. 4-seeded Sea Kings to the win over the No. 5-seeded Lions in the inaugural Orange County Lacrosse Assn. playoffs.

Noah Molnar produced three goals and one assist for the Sea Kings, who advanced to the semifinals. Corona del Mar will play host to top-seeded Foothill Monday at 4:45 p.m. Foothill defeated Newport Harbor, 12-2, Saturday.

David Kidushim, Mike’s younger brother, contributed two goals and two assists, while Ryan Mix added a goal and an assist.

Ty Oberly and Casey Bush scored one goal each for Corona del Mar.

Sophomore goalie Andrew Noto recorded eight saves for the Sea Kings.

Corona del Mar’s Nick Taylor and Casey Bush shared the team lead for groundballs with nine apiece.

The Sea Kings trailed, 3-2, after the first quarter, but responded and led 6-5 at halftime. In the third quarter, Corona del Mar went up 10-7.

Corona del Mar 8,CdM 4, Newport Harbor 2NEWPORT BEACH — Senior Michelle Tolfa struck out 20 overall and hit her first home run of the season in a nonleague doubleheader of Back Bay rivals at Bonita Creek Park Saturday.

Tolfa recorded 12 strikeouts in the first game, an 8-3 win, when teammate Leslee Kazmarek was three for four with one RBI. Allie Duernberger had two hits and two RBIs, while Katrina Gaar also had two hits for Corona del Mar (11-12), the visiting team. Newport Harbor’s Jane Messersmith hit two home runs in the first game.

The Sailors outhit the Sea Kings, 10-7, but committed nine errors, while Corona del Mar had zero.

Messersmith and Lauren Talbott had two hits each in the second game. Tolfa’s two-run homer in the first inning led the Sea Kings to the win in the second game. Holly Van Hiel contributed one RBI. Tolfa allowed eight hits, yet struck out eight in the second game to help her improve to 10-12 this season.

Corona del Mar returns to action Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., when the Sea Kings play host to University.

Newport Harbor will play host to Edison Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. at Bonita Creek Park.
