Western Intercollegiate Rowing Assn. Regatta

RANCHO CORDOVA — Orange Coast College rowers won three races and finished third in two others to claim the overall team points title Sunday on Lake Natoma, near Sacramento.

The Pirates won the men’s novice four, completing the 2,000-meter course in six minutes, 51.2 seconds.

OCC also won the men’s novice eight (6:09.5) and the men’s second novice eight (6:39.0)

The winning novice four consisted of coxswain Katie Scott, Andrew Hilton, Marcel Stiffey, Dave Northup and Kelly Hughes.

The winning men’s novice eight boat was propelled by coxswain Michael Hindenberger, Michael Verdone, Erich Hanxleden, James Long-Lerno, Bobby Jacobs, Roger Huffman, Daniel Dahlin, Steve Ostrich and Will Prioleau.

OCC’s second novice eight boat was filled by coxswain Alex Dostelman, Bryce Wiele, Trevor Arndt, Taylor Harris, Keith Karamanos, Ben O’Connell, Steven Lefever, Chris Cornell and Travis Gomez.

OCC finished third in the men’s varsity pair (7:42.7) and third in the junior varsity eight (6:23.1).

The Piraters were 10th in the men’s varsity eight.

UC Irvine was fifth in the men’s novice eight.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Ojai Valley tournament

OJAI — The Orange Coast College doubles duo of Jaleh Mazaheri and Heather Morton lost to Kathy Dennis and Erin Hung of Saddleback, 6-2, 6-2, in the community college doubles final Sunday at Libbey Park.

Mazaheri was eliminated in the singles semifinals earlier Sunday, dropping a 7-6, 6-0 verdict to Katherine Chavez of El Camino.

TRACK AND FIELD

Steve Scott Invitational

UC Irvine senior Ricky Barnes won the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 51.35 seconds in the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium Saturday.

UCI’s Nick Mosey won the 5,000 in 15:03.61.

UCI sophomore Lauren Collins recorded the No. 2 time in UCI history in the 100 hurdles (14.15) to win her section. She placed second in the high jump at 5 feet, 7 inches.

Nicole Dickerson and Lauren Willis qualified for the Big West Championships in the 100 with times of 12.32 and 12.39, respectively.

Samantha Costantini was second in the 1,500 in 4:37 and seventh in the 800 (2:16.67).

Alisha Misiata was third in the shot put (46-8 1/4 ) while Sarah Lady had a Big West-qualifying mark of 141-3 in the discus throw.

In other men’s action, UCI’s Napolean Greene (15.12) and Kevin Palmer (15.23) recorded Big West-qualifying times in the 110 high hurdles.

Mike Navarro finished fourth in the long jump (22-7) to qualify for the Big West meet.

Julian Eison was fourth in the high jump (6-8 3/4 ) and Eric Nyberg was fifth in the javelin throw (183-7).

Jimmy Kearney had a Big West-qualifying mark of 161-10 in the hammer throw.

Freshman Tim Murphy placed fourth in the men’s 800 in 1:53.50.
