IRVINE — UC Irvine senior left fielder Matt Morris went three for four with three RBIs to pace the Aneaters’ 15-hit attack in a 16-7 nonconference baseball victory over visiting UC Davis Sunday at Anteater Ballpark.

Junior right fielder Bryan Petersen also drove in three runs for the No. 16-ranked winners (31-12-1), who won the series, two games to one.

Taylor Holiday (eight for 15 in the series), Cody Cipriano (six for 12), Ben Orloff (five for 11) and Sean Madigan (four for eight), also had two hits apiece in the finale.

Petersen and Madigan also stole a base, while Ollie Linton nabbed two to give the Aneaters 107 for the season, matching last year’s team record.

Eric Pettis earned the victory to improve to 2-0. He allowed five hits and four earned runs in six innings.

UC Davis (15-25) scored two in the second inning and two in the third to pull even, 4-4, but UCI, which scored in each of the first six innings, pulled away to earn its 10th series victory in 12 opportunities this season.

UCI senior closer Blair Erickson gave up one run on two hits in the ninth. It was his first appearance since posting the save against USC on April 17. He has been battling shoulder soreness.
