The scholars interviewed with a national selection committee representing education, business, government and arts leaders from across the country.

The committee evaluated the scholars on their academic achievements, school and community leadership, and their desire to succeed.

Trusley is one of four students to receive top honors from an Irvine Co. scholarship competition, in which he won $10,000 in scholarships.

The annual Investing in Education Student Leadership Awards Program was open to students who live on the Irvine Ranch, and honored those who best demonstrate the qualities necessary to become future community leaders

Trusley is the National Honor Society Retirement Committee chairman, a member of the Spanish Club, and a 2006 participant in California Golden Boys State.

He played Gaston in the school’s recent production of “Beauty and the Beast,” composed an original score for “Romeo and Juliet,” and is a member of the jazz ensemble, orchestra and jazz combo.

He is a mentor and tutor for underprivileged children, and was awarded the Centennial Baby Scholarship from the Orange County Community Foundation.
