Big West Conference multi-event championships

NORTHRIDGE — UC Irvine sophomore Lauren Collins won the Big West Conference Heptathlon that concluded Sunday with a school-record 5,512 points at Cal State Northridge.

The mark betters the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships, June 6-9 in Sacramento. It also betters her previous best of 5,446 which set the then-school record.

Collins posted a mark of 18 feet, 0 1/2 inch in the long jump Sunday. She threw the javelin 118-3 and ran the 800 meters in two minutes, 19.41 seconds.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo junior Sharon Day, a Costa Mesa High product, was second with 5,244 points.

UCI’s Shawn Maghzi was third in the Big West Decathlon with 6,436 points.

UCI’s Kirk Marciel was seventh and Eric Nyberg was ninth.
