Art punk group Ima Robot to appear at Detroit Bar

Making a rare Orange County appearance, the neo-New Wave band Ima Robot is set to play at Detroit Bar on Thursday.

Vocalist Alex Ebert and guitarist Timmy Anderson united in the ’90s to form a hip-hop group that evolved into the “manic, jittery art punk” band of today, with Filip Nikolic on bass, Scott Devours on drums and Andy Marlow on guitar and keyboards.

In 2003, Virgin Records released the band’s self-titled debut album, featuring “Disconnect,” an homage to Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”

“We’re continuing the effort to bring people good bands to see rather than making them drive to L.A.,” said Chris Fahey, the bar’s booking manager.

Tickets cost $8 and are available online at www.detroitbar.com or by calling (800) 594-8499. Detroit Bar is at 843 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa. For more information, go to the website or call (949) 642-0600.
