Newport Beach’s proposed spending in 2007-08 will break the $200-million mark, and while revenue will be down slightly since last year, it will cover the outlays, according to the preliminary budget. The City Council will discuss the budget at a June 12 study session, with a vote expected June 26.

Spending for the next fiscal year is projected at $208.9 million, with revenues of $211.4 million. Five new positions would be created, two part-time jobs made full-time, and one position eliminated. Other highlights include nearly $4 million for traffic improvements, $3.4 million for parks and $2.4 million to boost water quality.
