Four straight for UCI

MALIBU — Outfielder Ollie Linton and designated hitter Jeff Cusick drove in two runs each to lead the 12th-ranked UC Irvine baseball team to a 5-1 win over No. 25 Pepperdine Tuesday in a nonconference game.

Taylor Holiday had three hits and one run to lead the Anteaters (35-14-1), who won their fourth straight. Holiday extended his hitting streak to 11 games, while Matt Morris and Sean Madigan added two hits apiece in the win.

UCI’s Bryan Petersen made his first collegiate start on the mound, striking out two in two scoreless innings while allowing one hit but did not figure in the decision.

Reliever Cory Hamilton picked up the win, improving to 4-1 after holding the Waves to a run on four hits.

Pepperdine dropped to 32-20. Waves’ starter Barry Enright fell to 11-4 after giving up two runs on three hits in five innings.

The Anteaters host Cal State Northridge in their final Big West Conference home series this weekend.
