UCI’S HOLIDAY HONORED

UC Irvine junior Taylor Holiday has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in baseball after leading the Anteaters to a 4-0 mark last week.

Holiday, who has hit in 14 consecutive games to establish a team-high this season, batted .556 (10 for 18) and had three triples to post an .889 slugging percentage in a win over Pepperdine (May 15) and a three-game conference series sweep of visiting Cal State Northridge (Friday through Sunday).

UCI’s leadoff hitter also had three RBIs, seven runs scored, two stolen bases, a walk and a sacrifice fly on the week.

He is tied for second on the team with 22 multiple-hit games and is batting .343 with a team-high 74 hits. He leads the Big West in doubles with 19 and is tied for first with seven triples.

It’s the first weekly honor for Holiday, who helped UCI improve to 38-14-1, 13-5 in conference.

BASKETBALL CAMP SET

The Coach Schac Basketball Camp run by Ryan Schachter, the Corona del Mar High boys’ basketball coach who led the Sea Kings to the CIF Southern Section Division III-A championship last season, is scheduled June 25-29 and July 16-20 at CdM.

The camp will feature two sessions, the first dates cost $175. The second dates cost $150. It’s $300 for both. The camps are open to kids ages 8 to 15.

AYSO REGISTRATION OFFERED

AYSO Region 120 will be having early registration Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Round Table Pizza in Costa Mesa.

Early registration is $55 for the first child, $50 for the second and $45 for the third, with a $150 maximum per family.

Region 120 will have regular registration, which costs $75 per player, on Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Boswell Hall, and on Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m.-noon at Boswell Hall.
