NCAA ChampionshipDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Junior Selaneé Henderson shot a tournament-low three-under 69 Tuesday to help UC Irvine to a seventh-place showing after the first day of the NCAA Championship at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Henderson’s 69 was the best round of the day, leading Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst and Stanford’s Lauren Todd by one stroke.

Henderson has shot a season-best 69 three times this year.

As a team, the Anteaters shot a 303 and are tied for seventh with UCLA, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Purdue. USC leads the field with a seven-over 295.

Freshman Patty Chawalitmetha is 39th with a 18-hole score of 76.

Freshman Henna Cho and junior Kim Lorenzana are tied for 82nd after carding an 79 and junior Jane Chin is 114th with a first-round score of 83.

UC Irvine will begin teeing off in the second round at 9:20 a.m. today.
