    The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, located at Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint and Warner Ave. on the east side of the highway, invites bird watchers, nature lovers and the curious to drop by “one of the West Coast’s significant flyways for migrating birds.”

    Open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., the reserve features a 1.5 mile loop trail; bring binoculars. No pets or bikes permitted on the trails.

    SATURDAY TILL MONDAYIn honor of National Beach Safety Week, a marine safety open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vincent G. Moorhouse Lifeguard Headquarters, 103 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach.

    The event includes beach safety displays, brochures and educational videos; children will be permitted to have pictures taken on board the Nissan Rescue Truck or the Honda Rescue Watercraft.

    MONDAYA Memorial Day ceremony to honor deceased veterans will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at Pier Plaza, Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street, at the Huntington Beach Pier.

    Hosted by the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Jewish War Veterans, the ceremony will include a flag raising, rifle salute and taps.

    Local assemblymen, congressmen and the mayor of Huntington Beach will officiate.
