Anita Coyoli-Cullen of Huntington Beach was recently named Woman of the Year by the Clara Barton Chapter, California State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Cullen is the co-founder of “Ukes for Troops,” a nonprofit organization formed in January 2005 that has sent more than 1,000 ukuleles to troops stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq.


Skip Pedigo, a 30-year resident of Huntington Beach, received the 2007 Volunteerism Award from the Volunteer Center of Orange County and the Orange County Register in April.

The award recognizes individuals for time and effort spent to improve the lives of others, and Pedigo, a 13-year ovarian cancer survivor, received the award for her work as public relations and media chair for the Ovarian Cancer Orange County Alliance.

Pedigo represented the organization at the National Ovarian Cancer Conference in Washington, D.C., last September, lobbying representatives on Capitol Hill for more funding for ovarian cancer.


Alison Keiko of Huntington Beach, a DePaul University student, was named to the dean’s list for the 2007 spring semester.
