No injuries in 3-car crash in Newport Coast

A crash at Newport Coast Drive and Pelican Hill Road left a small Honda sandwiched between two large trucks Thursday.

The crash, which occurred just before 1 p.m., was set in motion when an Irvine Ranch Water District Ford F-250, heading south on Newport Coast, rear-ended a black Honda coupe stopped at the light, police said.

The white F-250 pushed the Honda into the intersection where it struck a flatbed truck turning left onto northbound Newport Coast, police said.

No one was seriously injured, Police Lt. Jeff Lu said.

It’s the latest in a series of accidents in the area, some of which have involved heavy trucks rolling over while making turns. Newport Beach city officials in February took steps to increase safety by putting up warning signs that trucks can tip.
