Newport City Council to discuss group home rules
The Newport Beach City Council will hold a special meeting Wednesday to discuss proposed rules for group homes in the city, and to decided whether to extend a moratorium on new group homes and short-term rental permits.
The city has taken a hard look at group homes, namely drug and alcohol recovery facilities, since residents stepped up ongoing complaints about trash, noise and crime they believe the homes create. The new rules would require groups homes for more than six people to apply for city permits, and homes for six or fewer people that operate jointly with other facilities also would be subject to the rules.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at 3300 Newport Blvd.
