‘Eaters’ Gorgen earns Pitcher of Week honor

UC Irvine sophomore Scott Gorgen, who recorded his second straight shutout in the Anteaters’ 5-0 Big West Conference baseball victory at UC Riverside Friday night, has been named conference Pitcher of the Week.

Gorgen, who allowed three hits and struck out a career-high 11 to extend his scoreless streak to 18 innings, improved to 10-2.

After giving up a single in the third inning, Gorgen did not allow another hit. He retired 14 straight before issuing a walk in the sixth inning.

Gorgen has thrown all four of UCI’s complete games this season and has pitched in three of the team’s seven shutouts.
