Local police report 25 DUI arrests over the weekend

Newport Beach police reported a total of 11 DUI arrests over the Memorial Day weekend, and Costa Mesa police reported 14 DUI arrests, according to the departments’ arrest logs.

Only one major alcohol-related accident was reported in Costa Mesa. At 1:27 a.m. Sunday Michael Escobedo, 21, of Santa Ana allegedly broadsided a vehicle on Placentia Avenue, police said. The other driver, Pedro Martinez, 26, of Costa Mesa and his passenger were injured.

Martinez was treated for serious injuries at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. He later was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said. Escobedo was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and was arrested on suspicion of DUI with injuries and a felony hit-and-run, police said.
