SAILING:Sailors finish in second

The Newport Harbor High sailing team placed second at the Baker Trophy High School Team Race National Championships this past weekend on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, LA.

Newport Harbor qualified to participate in the British Schools Dinghy Racing Assn. Team Racing National Championships to be held at Bough Beech Sailing Club in England, July 2-3.

Twelve high school teams around the country qualified for the National Championship event. Newport Harbor qualified as the top Pacific Coast team by winning the Pacific Coast high school team race championships in April. The members of the Newport Harbor high school team sailing in this regatta included: Charlie Buckingham, Blair Belling, Michael Menninger, Brooke Thomson and Cole Hatton; Junior Caitlyn Beavers; Chris Barnard and Kayla McComb; and Chris Segerblom.

Corona del Mar High placed ninth in the event.
