Costa Mesa council to tee up for golf course decision

Newport Beach’s City Council has already weighed in on the future of the Newport Beach Golf Course’s back nine holes, and on Tuesday it will be Costa Mesa’s turn.

The Costa Mesa City Council will decide whether to urge an extension of the golf course’s lease with the county for the back nine.

The council will also decide whether to suggest that athletic fields be developed on a county-owned parcel at 1100 Bristol St.

Both cities’ councils care about the golf course because their residents use it, and Newport has asked the county to continue the lease.

The Bristol Street sports-field issue is unique to Costa Mesa.

The self-storage facility’s lease ends Dec. 31, and county flood control facilities at the site make it hard to develop.
