Traffic-calming efforts may be discontinued after vote

An effort to create guidelines for traffic calming in Costa Mesa could come to a halt Tuesday, when the City Council will vote on whether to continue the program. City staffers held a public meeting in April and were gathering surveys about traffic concerns, but at a May 15 meeting Mayor Allan Mansoor questioned the purpose of those efforts.

Mansoor said the city already adequately handles traffic complaints, so further study is unnecessary.

Transportation manager Peter Naghavi’s goal was to create comprehensive rules to determine when various solutions should be used.
