Silver DivisionHarbor View 3, Andersen 1: Harbor View won its first title thanks to Grant Wallace’s hat trick on Sunday.

Blake Davidson opened the scoring for Harbor View with a goal on a breakaway. Midfielders Noah Howe, Karl Donovan and Nino Chavez contributed on the next two goals scored by Wallace.

Ramzey Khatib, Chase Rosten provided defensive support, while Jacob Diaz, Dane Flinn and George Wells were responsible for counterattacks. Goalie Hampton Erwin made two point-blank saves for Harbor View, coached by Mike Palitz and Patrick Truninger.

SemifinalsEastbluff 4, Lincoln 3: Eastbluff pulled off an improbable upset with a victory on penalty kicks on Sunday.

Eastfbluff trailed 3-2 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. That’s when Katie Senske was fouled in the box and Kiana Schwenk-Mueller made the penalty kick.

Eastbluff then won on penalty kicks from Schwenk-Mueller, Senske, Emily Gruber and Kyle Mulvaney. Kendall Mulvaney, Eastbluff’s goalie, made two stops to provide the difference.

“This was the first time our school has made the Gold Division playoffs,” Coach Patrick Senske said. “It was really a Cinderella team. We went way farther than we ever thought we could.”

Chelsea Chiapuzio, Katie Curci and Jordan Castleton made penalty-kick goals for Lincoln. Castleton had two goals and Noelle Gooding one during regulation. Senske and Schwenk-Mueller scored during regulation for Eastbluff, which lost to Andersen, 2-0, in the championship.

South Coast Swim ConferenceNewport Hills 769, Lake Forest II Dolphins 498: The Newport Hills Killer Whales had a strong start to their summer season on June 2 at the Newport Hills pool.

The Killer Whales were led by both their girls’ and boys’ 6-and-under squads, which each swept the top three spots in the 100-yard medley relay, the 100 free relay, the 25 free, the 25 butterfly and the 25 backstroke.

Chloe Harbilas was a three-time winner in the girls’ 6-and-under division for Newport Hills, in the 25 free, 25 fly and 25 back. In the boys’ 6-and-unders, Connor McManigal took first in the 25 free and 25 fly.

The Killer Whales’ Madeline Musselman was first in the girls’ 7-8 25 free, 25 fly and 50 free. J.T. Russell, in the boys’ 7-8 division, was first in the 25 free, 25 back and 50 free.

Other multiple winners for Newport Hills were Brett Greenlee and Taylor Cortens in boys’ 9-10, as well as Blake Motal and Christian Garkani in boys’ 10-11. Hollace Barden won two events in the girls’ 13-14 division, and Jeff Condino (boys’ 13-14) was a three-time winner.

Leslee Kaczmarek won the girls’ 15-18 50 breast and 100 IM, and Kevin Lu won the same events in the boys’ 15-18 division. Cortens’ time in the boys’ 9-10 50 backstroke was a new team record.

Other team members setting personal-best times were Sophie Wallace (breaststroke), Ryan Schroeder (breast), Lauren Openshaw (breast), Briana Daboub (back), Anthony Daboub (back) and Greg Sanford (breast).

The Killer Whales’ next meet is this Saturday against the Harbor View Dolphins. The teams normally swim against each other twice a year, but this is the two Newport Beach squads’ only meeting this season.

BASEBALL

Costa Mesa National Little LeagueMinor BChampionship GameBraves 9, Mets 5: Mason Tufuga hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, helping the Braves to the CMNLL Minor B championship Monday night at TeWinkle Intermediate School.

Wyatt Kanocz and Deighton Tachiki-Urias both pitched well for the Braves, and shortstop Gerardo Acevas made several nice defensive plays, had multiple hits and scored a run.

For the Mets, catcher Mike McClanahan had two doubles, and starting pitcher Ted Zoerner allowed just one run in two innings. Shortstop Gianna Gayot also played well, getting several hits.
