BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

The Stanley Cup and Jean-Sebastien Giguere were making the rounds in Newport Beach on Saturday.

Giguere, a Newport Beach resident and the goalie of the NHL Champion Anaheim Ducks, left a lasting impression with his neighbors and others in the community when he provided the Stanley Cup for photographs and a few smooches.

Robert Danese, a neighbor, planted one on the Cup, as did several others. He posed for a photo with his wife, Jody, and children, Gian and Gianna, along with the Cup and Giguere.

“[Giguere] could not have been a nicer and kinder guy,” Danese wrote in an e-mail. “He let every kid and adult kiss the cup, drink from it, take pictures with it — he was great.”

Giguere and the Cup also made a stop at the Harbor View pool, where the Newport Harbor Hills Swim Team defeated the Harbor View Swim Team. But everyone was a winner when Giguere came on site.

“[Giguere] was extremely gracious and patient, notwithstanding being mobbed by probably 400 crazed kids,” Frank Crance wrote in an e-mail. “He went out of his way, on his special day with the Cup, to spontaneously and selflessly create a very special day for our kids.”
