COMMUNITY COMMENTARY:Focus on current health care mandates

In California today, many employers struggle to be competitive, and that includes providing healthcare to their employees to recruit and retain the best workers.

Reasonable people can argue why the cost of doing business, including the cost of healthcare, continues to rise. Reasonable people can debate the role that government has played in our poor business climate and ailing healthcare system. And reasonable people can question why more families can’t seek out their own individually-tailored healthcare programs without depending on their employers or the government.

However, reasonable is not the term many would use to describe the state Legislature. When faced with a problem, it chooses to expand government rather than introspectively question how we got here, and if incentives and less government could be a part of the solution to our challenges.
