Late run lifts Angels

Sean Mastro delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie and give the Angels a 3-2 victory over the Yankees and clinch the Majors Division postseason tournament at Huntington Valley Little League.

Mastro’s two-out single to left-field came on a 2-2 count and ended an inning that saw teammates David Clegg, Brodie Barton and David Mastro each get hits and Kyle Johnson a ground-rule double.

The Angels had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Yankees tied the score on Tyler MacLeod’s two-run home run.

The Yankees nearly pulled out the postseason tournament title by defeating the Orioles and Angels prior to the 3-2 loss.

Both the Angels and Yankees will represent the league at the Tournament of Champions.

Yankees 1, Angels 0Needing to beat the Angels twice in order to claim the postseason title, the Yankees got victory No. 1 in a defensive battle where neither team committed an error and Tate Libuano’s solo home run decided it.

Tyler MacLeod of the Yankees and Kyle Johnson of the Angels both pitched strong games.

Yankees 5, Orioles 4The Yankees scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge the Orioles in an extra-inning thriller.

The Yankees had taken a 4-0 first-inning lead and held that lead until the fifth, when the Orioles scored five times to tie the score.

At Ocean View Little LeagueIn the final game of the season, Micah Bartle had a key RBI single in the fifth inning and went on to score the winning run on a passed ball, as the Twins shaded the A’s.

Also getting hits for the Twins were Daniel Amaral, Ben Vaught and Stuart Morton. JoJo Amaral and Tyler Somerville scored.

Jack Shearer recorded the pitching win and reliever Daniel Amaral retired three straight batters in the sixth to get the save.

Minor B DivisionThe Orioles capped a perfect regular season by notching their 18th victory at the expense of the A’s.

Orioles 13, A’s 6

Michael Primich had two hits and Sebastian Vercoe a pair of RBI for the Orioles.

The Orioles open up Tournament of Champions play Saturday at Robinwood Little League.
