Costa Mesa police arrested a man and two women after they allegedly beat and robbed a 33-year-old Costa Mesa man Thursday evening at the intersection of Placentia Avenue and 19th Street.

At about 9:30 p.m., the victim was eating on the patio of Alejandro’s Mexican Food when he was allegedly approached by Ryan West, 26, Lindsey Chambers, 22, both of Huntington Beach, and Jodie Brummett, 20, of Costa Mesa and asked for money, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver said. When the victim refused to give them anything, they reportedly “started hitting him in the head, beating him up and eventually beat him down to the ground,” Carver said.

A passing officer spotted the assault and approached the area, and the attackers fled to a parked car with the victim’s wallet, which contained $290. Officers detained the suspects and recovered the victim’s wallet and its contents, though Brummett later slipped her handcuffs and punched an officer in the face before being subdued again, police said.

The victim sustained bruises but was not hospitalized. All three suspects were charged with robbery and are each being held — West at Costa Mesa City Jail and the women at Orange County Jail — on $100,000 bail.
