NEWPORT BEACH — Scott Davis, a pro at the Newport Beach Tennis Club, and his father, Gordon, won a seventh straight title at the 13th annual United States Tennis Assn. national father and son hardcourt doubles championships Sunday at NBTC.

This time the Davises, the top seed, defeated fifth seeds Jim and Brian Nelson, 6-3, 6-2, for the super senior division (fathers age 70 and older) title. It was the third straight super senior title for Scott and Gordon Davis. They also won four straight championships in the senior division (fathers ages 60-69) from 2000 to 2003.

Jerry Van Linge, of Newport Beach, and his son Brett, the fourth seeds, made the most of their debut in the senior division, winning the title on Sunday. They defeated Jeffrey and Brandon Coupe, 6-1, 6-4.

The Van Linges romped through the tournament, not losing more than six games in any match. The Coupes, the third seed, took out the top-seeded duo of Rick and Dick Leach, the defending champions, 7-6, 6-4, in the semifinals Saturday. Rich Leach, who will play for the Newport Beach Breakers next month, is also a pro at NBTC.

Bart and Devin Bowen of Costa Mesa finished third in the senior division after the Leaches defaulted the third-place match. Dick Leach, a former coach of the Breakers, was nursing an arm injury.

In the super senior division, Eric Quade, of Newport Beach, and his father, Stanley, won the consolation title.
