OMAHA, Neb. — UC Irvine evaded elimination from the College World Series with a close 8-7 win over Arizona State Tuesday night.

For the third time in four games, the win came down to the Anteaters’ last at-bat as they rallied through a four-run deficit in the eighth inning.

Ollie Linton singled with the bases loaded in the 10th inning to advance the Anteaters to the third round of the CWS. They will play Oregon State Wednesday at 4 p.m. The game will be telecast on ESPN2.

UC Irvine became the first team in the 61-year history of the CWS to win extra-inning games on consecutive days. The Anteaters defeated Cal State Fullerton 5-4 in 13 innings Monday in a game that took 5 hours and 40 minutes, the longest in CWS history.

The Anteaters (47-16-1) must beat defending champion Oregon State on Wednesday and again Thursday to win their bracket and reach the best-of-three championship round.

The Sun Devils (49-15) lost consecutive games for the first time since March.
