GETTING THERE

Take Interstate 5 to State Route 78 going east. Exit at Oceanside, proceed east to Interstate 15 south. Exit at Via Rancho Parkway and follow the signs to the park.

Lion Camp

Enter the world of African lions, where large glass panels afford a panoramic view of the pride in a grassy plain area or on large boulders and rocks. Female lions can often be seen perched in the acacia trees that are also part of the exhibit.

Heart of Africa

This walking trail begins at the southern end of Nairobi Village and takes guests along rustic paths, wood-planked walkways and winding trails — past trees, streams and a floating bridge — where okapis, giraffes, warthogs and cheetahs can be seen.

Balloon Safari

These helium-filled balloons can hold up to 30 people and reach heights of up to 400 feet. The ride offers a panoramic view of lions, rhinos, giraffes and gazelles, as well as the San Pasqual Valley. Tickets are $15; $12 for members.

Sleepovers

The Wild Animal Park also offers overnight stays for a chance to get an “after-hours look” at the wildlife there. A variety of tent options are available. All programs include guided walks, animal encounters and a campfire program. For information, call (619) 718-3000.
