A suspected bank robber who had his 7-year-old son along in his Toyota pickup when Huntington Beach police arrested him was charged Friday in federal court in Santa Ana.

Ferdinand Trinidad of Buena Park was charged with bank robbery and will be held without bail until his next hearing on June 29.

At 3:50 p.m. Thursday, a man pulled out a gun and asked a teller for cash at a Bank of America kiosk inside the Albertsons supermarket at 19640 Beach Blvd., said Huntington Beach police Lt. Craig Bryant.

The suspect left with the money in his gold-colored pickup, but a bystander took down most of the digits of his license plate as he fled, Bryant said.

Officers waiting at Beach Boulevard and Edinger Avenue saw a truck fitting that description and pulled it over, he added. Police found money and a gun inside, then arrested Trinidad, he said.

The son, whose name has not been released, was returned to his mother in Buena Park, police said.

Investigators suspect Trinidad may have robbed other banks as well, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

“Based on surveillance photos and other evidence, we believe he may be the same individual who has committed other robberies in the area,” she said. “It’s under investigation.”

According to Huntington Beach police, Trinidad is 37 years old.
