Estancia’s West earns Division IV honors

Estancia High junior center fielder Taylor West, the Newport-Mesa Player of the Year, was named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division IV softball second team, which is selected by coaches.

West blasted a school-record 10 home runs, hit .573 with 46 RBIs and a 1.240 slugging percentage during a historic year for the Eagles.

Estancia (17-8) won its first softball league championship after going 8-1 in the Orange Coast League and qualified for the playoffs for the first time in what Coach Alan Caouette said was at least 15 years.

West was also named the league’s MVP.
