THAT’S DEBATABLE:Who’s liable?

Former Environmental Protection Agency administrator Christie Todd Whitman testified before Congress this week about how she handled environmental safety near Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks. Should Whitman and the EPA have done more to protect rescue workers from toxic air, and did some of the responsibility fall to New York City leaders, including then Gov. Rudy Giuliani?

Following the tragic events of 9/11, the EPA and government officials at all levels did everything in their ability, under very strained circumstances, to protect rescue and recovery workers from environmental hazards at Ground Zero. Democrats are now attempting to blame and vilify local, state and federal leaders for the health and respiratory problems workers and residents developed in the aftermath of the attacks. The truth, however, is that the villains were not our leaders but the terrorists who attacked our country. Unfortunately, it seems Democrats in Congress are devoid of any ideas, so they occupy all their time doing fruitless investigations like this.
