Locals capture gold

Matthew Butler, 12, of Huntington Beach and Vinnie Rios, 13, of Torrance teamed to captured a gold medal at the California Junior Olympic Beach Volleyball Championships in the 14-and-Under Division at Dockweiller State Beach in Playa del Rey.

It was the first beach competition of the year for the pair.

In other youth volleyball action:

The St. Bonaventure School boys’ A volleyball team won the Parochial Athletic Coastal League championship with a record of 10-0. In the league’s postseason tournament, the Saints finished in third place.

The team is made up of captains Kevin Kustura and Kyle Ingram, and players Zachary Beko, Duncan Bonar, Scott Bowman, Connor Brennan, Tim Cook, Hunter Koon, Daniel Gibson, Steven Koressel, Patrick Shaughnessy and Sean Theilen.

The Saints are coached by Mick Ingram.
