UC Irvine incoming class ranked 21st by website

The UC Irvine women’s volleyball 2007 incoming class of Larissa Nordyke, Kari Pestolesi, Riley Cropper and Alex Hauser has been tabbed 21st in the country by Prep Volleyball.com.

UC Irvine’s recruiting class is one of two from the Big West to be recognized with Cal Poly also recognized in the Top 30 at No. 23.

Nordyke, a 5-10 standout from Punahou High in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a first-team all-state and All-Interscholastic League honoree.

Pestolesi, a 5-11 outside hitter, was named the team’s Best Offensive Player at Edison.

Cropper, a four-year scholar-athlete, helped Los Alamitos to CIF Southern Section and state championships.

Hauser, a 6-2 standout from Ayala High, was a first-team All-Sierra League selection.

“This recruiting class is an example of the type of student-athlete that we want at UC Irvine,” said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Sabrina Hernandez. “These athletes are not only competitors with a vast knowledge of the game, but are quality people who strive to be successful in all facets of their lives.”

Coach Charlie Brande’s Anteaters open the season Aug. 24 and will face Montana, Gonzaga and Canisuis College at the Montana Tournament.
