Ocean View has no mercy

Things went just about as perfect as possible for the Ocean View Little League All-Star team in its District 62 tournament opener against Costa Mesa American.

So well, in fact, that Ocean View needed just four innings to get its first postseason win under its belt, a 22-0 romp Saturday at Robinwood Little League.

Ocean View scored five runs in the opening inning, four more in the second, a whopping nine in the third and concluded the runaway with a four-run fourth inning before the game was halted by the mercy rule.

Not only was the Ocean View offense on fire, pitcher Grant Mayeaux was untouchable. The right-hander’s breaking ball frustrated Costa Mesa American and he struck out eight on his way to a no-hitter. Ocean View’s offense racked up 15 hits, including three doubles and four home runs.

Zachary Gates delivered the first long ball, a two-run shot to open Ocean View’s scoring, Max Gibbs smacked a three-run homer in the second inning, Jake Rubino clubbed a two-run homer in the third and Jake Schulze had an All-Star highlight when he smashed a grand slam in the fourth inning.
