MESA ONE WIN AWAY

The Costa Mesa National Little League Majors All-Stars will play in a winner’s bracket semifinal of the District 62 All-Stars Tournament today at 10 a.m. at the Westminster Little League fields.

Costa Mesa defeated Seaview, 5-4, at Johnson Intermediate in Westminster Tuesday. Ryan West drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Jake Stone in the sixth inning. Levi Stillman tied the score with a single to center field.

Starting pitcher Tyler Rios reached his pitch limit while getting the first out of the sixth inning. Dante Capoccia struck out the last two batters to close the game. Jesse Paz produced a home run for Costa Mesa, while Ben Beck contributed an RBI

With a win today, the Costa Mesa All-Stars will advance to Monday’s championship. If they lose, they play in an elimination game Sunday.

CMNLL TEAM NOT OUT

The Costa Mesa National 10-11-year-old All-Stars made it back to the winner’s bracket with an 8-4 win over Fountain Valley in an elimination game Monday.

Costa Mesa will play Seaview today at 1 p.m., needing to win today and Sunday to advance to Monday’s championship.

NBLL TO FACE ALISO

The Newport Beach National All-Stars will face Aliso Viejo in the winners’ bracket semifinals of the District 55 Tournament’s 9-10-year-old division today at 9:00 a.m. at Chapparosa Park. Aliso Viejo defeated Newport Beach American 10-6 to advance to the semifinals.

Newport Beach defeated Cental Irvine 12-5 Sunday. Chad Redfearn finished with a single and a walk, and Ryan Maister had a double and pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run. Cole Martin had a single and booted a ball to third to finish with three RBIs.

The NBLL National All-Stars advanced to beat South Irvine 21-11 to record their second victory in the tournament Monday.

Aided by three walks and three errors, South Irvine sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs in the second inning.

Newport answered with 15 batters and 10 runs of their own in the top of the third, and eventually ended the game in the fourth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

NHBA PONY ELIMINATED

The Newport Harbor Baseball Assn. 13-year-old All-Stars lost to Cypress, 8-6, Tuesday night in the District Pony Tournament.

Andrew McCormack pitched 5 1/3 innings and was three for four at the plate. Brent Lawson, Max Richley, Tyler Kiehnle each had two hits. Kiehnle had a two-run double in the fourth.

NHBA finished with a record of 10-5-1.
