UCI’s Campbell signs pro contract with NBL

Former UC Irvine men’s basketball player Nic Campbell has signed a contract with the Gold Coast Blaze for its inaugural season in the Philips Championship National Basketball League (NBL).

Campbell, a 6-6 forward, averaged 10.0 points and 3.2 rebounds for UCI last season, scoring a career-high 24 points against San Francisco Feb. 17.

He ranks sixth at UCI with 134 career three-point field goals. Campbell scored in double figures 37 times in his Anteater career, including 15 games last season. He is from Launceston, Tasmania.

Gold Coast is coached by Brendan Joyce and the Blaze roster also includes former Long Beach State player Juaquin Hawkins. The team opens the season against Brisbane Sept. 19.
