Rib cook-off event held to help children’s charity

For the last 25 years Harry Winters has helped find homes and peace of mind for some of the most neglected and mistreated kids across the county at the Canyon Acres Children and Family Services.

That’s why when friend Cliff Jones came to him with the idea of planning a charity to raise money for the group, Winters was all in. The two paired up with Costa Mesa bar Madeleine’s to hold a rib cook-off and raffle event.

For a $20 donation amateur rib chefs were supplied with a pan, a rack of ribs and the rest was up to them. By 1 p.m. Sunday the entries were submitted for taste testing, meaning bar regulars would eat up and judge each of the recipes from spicy to sweet-and-tangy.

Funds raised at the event will go toward all Canyon Acres’ programs. For more information about the group visit www.canyonacres.org.
