Library to offer Sunday hours starting July 29

Newport Beach’s Mariners branch library will offer Sunday hours beginning July 29, after the City Council in June approved funding for added staff. The library will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Mariners library is about 40 years old, but since the branch was rebuilt and reopened in April 2006 its traffic has gone up 40%, according to Newport Beach Library Services Director Linda Katsouleas. Sunday is also the busiest day of the week at the central library, so opening Mariners is expected to help ease the pressure there.

The Donna and John Crean Mariners Branch Library, 1300 Irvine Ave., serves residents as well as the adjacent Mariners Elementary School.
