NHBA KEEPS WINNING

PLACENTIA — Patrick Overstreet hit two home runs to help the Newport Harbor Pony Bronco All-Star team mercy-rule Anaheim, 15-1, in five innings, in an elimination game in the District 2 Tournament at Placentia Champions Sports Complex Tuesday.

Newport Harbor, which is 3-1 in the 12-and-under tournament, will play today at 4:30 p.m. against the loser of the Placentia-Fountain Valley game. The winner of that game advance to Thursday’s final and will play the winner of today’s game.

Pitchers Daniel Albert and Josh Rivera were solid for Newport Harbor and Rivera and Cory Cablay each hit home runs.

MESA SOLID IN TOURNEY

Competing in the 12-and-under girls’ Spring Select Area Q Tournament, Costa Mesa’s U11 AYSO team went unbeaten in the first round and the Gold bracket before falling out of the tournament.

The team also played in the South Coast Bayern Cup, where it placed third. Costa Mesa led the first match against Moreno Valley, 0-0, and won the second match, 2-0, over Select Cities, before losing to eventual champion Mission Viejo, 2-1.

Jacqueline Hubbard and Cristina Tuer each scored goals on assists from Jackie Tanner and Alondra Novoa, respectively.
