GREER’S BEST BUYS:Firehouse is new home to apparel

Fresh Produce Handpicked just opened a new charming store in the original Balboa Island firehouse.

Owners Deanna Frieze and Charlie Rohre restored the vacant building built in the 1930s to display Fresh Produce’s collection of women and children’s apparel. They even kept the original firehouse garage door.

Once again, the firehouse is a treasured part of the community.

Fresh Produce Sportswear features a colorful palette, comfortable fabrics and seasonally inspired printed designs. Fresh Produce’s active wear clothing offers flattering cut tees, tanks, shirts, skirts, pants, jackets, dresses, loungewear and swimwear. And the store carries Fresh Produce clothing for kids, as well as Extra Fresh, the women’s plus-size line.

Imperial furnishings

Do you collect Royal memorabilia, follow every step of Prince William and Harry, and devour each Princess Diana book that comes along?

Then you are going to want to have a quick look-see of the exclusive Althorp Living History at von Hemert Interiors today through July 29. It’s a collection of fine furniture reproduced from Althorp, the Spencer family’s estate.

Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, joined with Theodore Alexander, a maker of fine reproductions of 18th and 19th century furniture, to offer furniture connoisseurs a part of history.

The Althorp collection includes hundreds of museum-quality furniture and accessory pieces. The same details found on originals at the Spencer’s 500-year-old estate were carefully reproduced with detailed hand carvings and lost-wax casting techniques.

Von Hemert Interiors’ three locations in Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach and Torrance offer the Althorp line. Open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 1595 Newport Blvd. in Costa Mesa, (949) 642-2050; www.vonhemertinteriors.com.
