A local man is in custody on suspicion of cultivating marijuana after Costa Mesa police found about 100 pot plants in his house, said police Sgt. Bryan Glass.

Officer Bill Adams arrested Chad Hoffman, 33, of Costa Mesa, on Tuesday at his house in the 900 block of Senate Street. Inside the house, police found nearly 100 plants being cultivated with the aid of a lighting system, Glass said. Hoffman is being held at Costa Mesa Jail on $20,000 bail.

Adams was responding to a domestic disturbance call.

“At that site, he gained information about an individual who was growing marijuana. He went to the location and contacted [Hoffman] there, where he found approximately 100 plants,” Glass said.

The plants were in various stages of growth and were found in multiple rooms in the home, authorities said.

Police would not comment on the potential street value of the illegal drug, or if other special equipment was used in conjunction with the lighting system.

Police have not arrested any other suspects in connection with the case, Glass said.

They released no more information on the domestic disturbance call.

Efforts to reach Hoffman were unsuccessful.
