Teens go head to head in Governor’s Cup

More than 30 teens in 12 boats from international yacht clubs completed their first day of racing in the 41st annual Governor’s Cup on Tuesday off the coast of Newport Beach.

The Newport Harbor Yacht Club swept its races, compiling six wins in the opening day of round-robin competition. Balboa Yacht Club, the host of the Governor’s Cup, came away with four wins.

The racing continues today through Saturday, as the young sailors vie for the Cup in the longest-running youth match in the world.
