Council to decide fate of Paularino park-goers

The Costa Mesa City Council will decide Tuesday whether to ban adult soccer at Paularino Park and install trees and boulders there to prevent such team sports, as recommended by the city’s parks and recreation commission.

After gathering community input, the commission in May voted to ask the council to specify that the park is for passive recreation rather than active sports, post signs that explain that policy, and put in trees and boulders to break up the park’s open grassy areas.

Plans for Paularino Park should cost about $3,000 to execute, and money also is available to re-do the tot lot. Also on the council’s agenda is a discussion of the city’s policy for allocating athletic fields to teams for practices and games.
