Camp to host youth charity event with music, skaters

The Camp, Costa Mesa’s alternative mall, will look like a genuine campground for a few hours tonight, as young artists, musicians and skaters congregate for a three-hour extravaganza to raise money for charity.

The shopping center will host the Element Youth Movement Co-Op Tour, which is making its way across the state and diverting proceeds to a pair of nonprofits: the Collective Sound, which holds after-school music programs, and Adaptive Action Sports, which supports athletes with disabilities.

Musicians between ages12 and 18 will perform their original songs at the Camp, while skaters will give demonstrations.

“The Tour is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to give students the chance to access live audiences and venues,” Zac Smith, founder of the Collective Sound, said in a release.

The event, which also features an art show sponsored by the New York clothing manufacturer Beck(y), starts at 6 p.m. today at the Camp, 2937 Bristol St.
