Former North Carolina basketball player Jessica Sell has been named an assistant coach with the UC Irvine women’s basketball program.

Sell was a starter on the Tar Heel team that lost to Maryland in the 2006 NCAA Championship game. She was a member of two ACC Championship teams (2005, 2006), playing and starting in all but one game as a senior, when she averaged 2.6 points. The three-point specialist knocked down 35 three-points in 2005-06, hitting 38.5 percent from long range. Sell, who was a two-time winner of the team’s Hustle award, scored a career-high 20 points against East Tennessee State in 2002.

Sell was named 2003 West Virginia Player of the Year and Gatorade State Player of the Year at North Marion High School in Rachel, W. Va
