CORONA DEL MAR — Rob Hess started up the Jack Errion Memorial Tournament for Corona del Mar High alumni 19 years ago. So, perhaps it was fitting that his team won it.

Hess playing on a team made up of Sea Kings from the late 1980s defeated the 2003 team, 36-32, Saturday at Corona del Mar.

Darren Morris, Brendan Gallagher, Chris Burns, Chris McLaughlin and Carl Amacker graduated with Hess in 1987. Geoff Probst (1988) and Stan Frazier (‘86) were also on the winning team.

Brett Matson and Eric Glass led the 2003 team, which won in overtime in the semifinals against 2044. Hess’ team defeated the 1970s squad, which reached the final last year.
