NEWPORT HARBOR ALUMNI TOURNAMENT:Melum dethrones McIntee

NEWPORT BEACH — Tony Melum, a 2002 graduate of Newport Harbor High, and Anthony Rentz (2000) played big roles in taking away the alumni tournament title from the Justin McIntee-led team that was going for its third straight championship.

Rentz hit a bucket with about 15 seconds left to give his team its first lead. It had trailed by as many as 13 points, but won, 41-40, Saturday at Newport Harbor.

Melum hit a game-winning shot with four seconds left in the semifinals against a team that featured Greg and Brett Perrine.

Melum’s team included 2000-02 graduates Aaron Yarnell, Justin Reynolds, John Murray and Steve Young. Eric Dragaset (1988) and Danny Pulido (‘97) were also on the squad.

Chuck McGavern, Cragi DeBusk, Todd Summer, Tyler Coon Eddie Martinez, Page Parish and Kevin Saks, who graduated 1989-01, teamed with McIntee.
