BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: Former Little Leaguer commits to Stanford

Scott Colton, a Newport Coast resident who will be a senior at Mater Dei High, has committed to Stanford University to play baseball, his father, Dave, said.

Colton was a Daily Pilot Little League Dream Team selection in 2002 as part of Newport Beach Little League.

At Mater Dei, he tied school records with 44 hits and 14 doubles this past spring. He hit eight home runs and produced 24 RBIs. Scott also led Mater Dei with a .440 batting average.

Colton received notification of his admission to Stanford from baseball coach Mark Marquess on July 19.

Colton attended Carden Hall in Newport Beach through the eighth grade before going to Mater Dei.
