Summer art outreach concludes

More than 120 students, parents and instructors turned out July 30 on the campus of Laguna College of Art & Design to mark the conclusion of this summer’s Arts Education Community Outreach Programs: College Credit Classes for Talented Teens and Professional Development for High School Teachers.

The reception showcased the talents of the high school participants and honored the corporate foundations whose contributions make the community outreach programs possible.

Among those acknowledged were Disneyland Resort, Wells Fargo Foundation, Edison International and Pacific Life Foundation, whose cumulative contribution to LCAD’s Arts Education Community Outreach Programs totaled $30,000.

Edison International awarded Laguna College of Art & Design a $10,000 grant July 25 for the third year in a row.

The Talented Teens scholarship program strives to build self-esteem, reinforce interest in the visual arts, and prepare students for college level instruction. Students who successfully complete the course receive two units of credit that are transferable to the college of their choice.

Professional Development for High School Teachers supports the continued education and inspiration of high school art teachers. Teachers selected to receive a scholarship for this program are distinguished and dedicated art educators.
